» CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character NAME: Angelique Bouchard (Also seen under such aliases as Angelique Collins, Valerie Collins, Cassandra Collins nèe Blair, Miranda duVal, and Angelique DuBois).
Canon & MEDIUM: Dark Shadows (TV series)
Canon PULL-POINT: The end of the Leviathan storyline - roughly 1970.
Character AGE: Canon is so iffy about this. Dark Shadows likes to play a fun game called "let's age and de-age characters at will!" So I'm gonna call her at roughly 26 (However, this is in appearance only; there's all kinds of time-hopping and centuries in hell and Dark Shadows Science™ that are presumed and not necessarily stated and it's all very complicated).

Character ABILITIES: Angelique is a witch. In the Dark Shadows universe, the limits of that are rather vague - in fact, it's stated several times that she can do almost anything. However, when pitted against people with similar powers, such as Nicholas Blair, her superior, things are put into perspective. Mainly, that her spells often backfire. She's seen doing, or, attempting to do, a few specific things: she's adept at voodoo and other such manipulation, she can set curses on others, and she can heal, and also raise the dead. Time-travel's also within her powers, but obviously, that would be useless here.

Character HISTORY: Everything you ever wanted to know about Dark Shadows (and some things you probably never cared about)!

Specifically, as stated, Angelique is a witch. She is most often considered a villain in her universe, but her first appearances were as a humble maid (albeit, obviously with a secret, but shhh). However it may have progressed, she slept with the heir of the prestigious Collins family, Barnabas Collins, during a business trip he took to Martinique. Naive as she was, she considered this to be true love - and when he decided to marry her mistress, Josette du Pres, she still didn't give up hope. After all, they meant things to each other that night. Surely that couldn't go unnoticed.

It didn't go unnoticed, but it became irrelevant as Barnabas insisted that their affair was a mistake and (poorly) resisted all other advances from her. From then on, Angelique made it her mission to ruin his life and thus draw him to her. She cast a spell drawing Josette and Barnabas' uncle to one another, leading to their marriage and his subsequent death, and even used Barnabas' sister to her advantage (promising only to cure her from an illness she induced if Barnabas married her. It worked). But, after marriage, upon finding out what she'd done, Barnabas shot her. Thinking she was surely doomed, she cursed him to die.

And also become a vampire.

The tricky thing was, she didn't die, and when she realized she was alive, she was horrified at what she'd done, but the spell was irreversible. Oh, and the newly vampiric Barnabas also killed her. Which set into motion the events which led to her convincing Josette to jump off of a cliff after showing her an image of what Barnabas would turn her into (hint: also a vampire!).

It's antics like these that Angelique is typically known for: making Barnabas Collins' life into a living hell. She's already got him hating himself for all eternity; everything else is a treat.

Character PERSONALITY: On first glance, it would seem that Angelique's name suits her, right down to her appearance. Blonde curls, wide, innocent blue eyes, and that polite, obedient, almost timid demeanor - almost like an angel come to life. Could there have been a better self-fulfilling prophecy?

Actually - yeah. There could have. Because that sweetness, that shyness, that humble and virtuous nature is a complete fallacy. However, Angelique is more than willing to let anybody believe it. After all, if she has no reason to betray herself, why wouldn't she go on letting people see her as a paragon of all things good? Why let anybody suspect that there's something malicious brewing just beneath the surface?

The problem is that Angelique doesn't always have the best self-control. She doesn't make the smartest decisions at times, and this can, indeed, lead to a slip up or five. Suspicions are inevitable. However, it would seem that she's quite good at correcting her mistakes - at least temporarily, and leading people to believe once more that she's done nothing wrong. She knows how to spin a story - flattery and compliments and borderline self-deprecation are her friends, absolutely. It's a very particular brand of manipulation - and, in her experience, it works in a pinch (when she doesn't want to physically manipulate them, that is). And if not, one simply must give her credit for trying.

Angelique is aware of her power. Not in the way that she's aware that she has them available for use, but aware of the power that she has over others. Again, her innocent demeanor is a complete facade; on the inside, for lack of a better word, Angelique believes that she is hot shit. The hottest. It isn't that she isn't, necessarily, or that her threats (and she absolutely does threaten) are empty, but she does have the tendency to overestimate her abilities - and her heartlessness. Angelique has a huge sentimental streak. While vengeful and spiteful, it can't be denied that love is what propelled her to turn her life in an evil direction. Angelique isn't led by her feelings; they take hold of her and drag her with them. However, they often take a cruel direction: love into spite, jealousy - vengeance. No one is capable of holding a grudge like Angelique is. She likes attention, but is quick to anger when it's taken away.

She also doesn't take confrontation well. Direct confrontation; the kind that makes her fold. Of course she doesn't; why would she want to reveal her motives? Angelique fares well when she is the one in charge of the conversation, but when there's no way out and she can't slide away into a corner with nice words and pretty faces, she doesn't fare well - though she does certainly try. It's not too far of a stretch to say that she banks too much on succeeding. As stated before, she thinks that she's the very best (like no one ever was), and she is prone to panic when things go wrong - which, frankly, is what happens when her feelings overtake her and she acts purely on impulse, making things up when she goes along. She's desperate for success, yes, but when things go her way? When she thinks they're going her way? She can only be described as smug. Smug and unapologetic to those she's wronged (unless, of course, such apologies will work in her favor; for the most part, Angelique is a free agent, working toward her own selfishness).

» EXSILIUM INFORMATION
Chosen WEAPON: Well, Angelique is a witch. She's prone to using her abilities more than actual weapons. However, she has been seen with such things as a voodoo doll, so that would likely be the weapon of choice for her.

As for sentience and evolution, I figure it would obviously start out as it is in canon: needing objects of the intended victim's in order to operate correctly. However, as her focus and resolve (and eventual acceptance at being recruited) grow, perhaps that wouldn't be necessary. Perhaps, were her will strong enough (as it would require great exertion), it could change to take on the form of her victim all on its own, and she could manipulate them that way. A catch to this would be that it would also become a focus point for her powers; anything that she wanted to do, she would have to do through the doll - at least while it was in use. (Also, it could only be intended for use on one person at a time).

(Let me know if this doesn't work - Angelique's powers are really vague and basically change to suit the plot in canon, leading to her seeming rather overpowered at times, so I'm definitely willing to work with this)

Character INVENTORY: Voodoo doll! Clothing! That's it!

First PERSON:

They do realize there's nothing holding us here, right?

[ she laughs, a hum from her throat, and shakes her head. ]

Nothing. Oh, surely you'll understand if it seems rude, but - apart from the restraint of the world, they can't expect us to have any attachment to this place. To this cause.

Perhaps they thanked us prematurely.

Third PERSON:
It's not long after her arrival that Angelique decides to leave.

The fact that she can't is secondary, as is the cause that she's (supposed to be) fighting for. Nicholas should have robbed her of her powers. She can feel the surge through her veins and they're still there, she knows.

"Nicholas was foolish," she mumbles to herself, hands plucking the clay doll from the table and depositing it in her pocket. With a smirk, she glances to the floor, shaking her head - for he is still behind this, in her mind. Whether it's all an elaborate scheme of his own design, or merely a ruse to torment her, Angelique hasn't decided.

And she has no intent on deciding, as her time is currently occupied by leaving.

She doesn't know where to begin, where to go, and she settles for the rooftop of the apartment building. The outside air always works to her advantage, she thinks; the better to feel the elements and their power and the glow of the moon and the wind on her face and all she has to do is wish it. Surely she has that much strength - enough to feel and let go and arrive home -

And open her eyes to find herself right back there on the roof. Still concrete. Still night. The wind now has a chill she hadn't felt before. Her eyes grow frantic and her palms hot as she looks around - an answer somewhere - but there isn't one.

She squares her shoulders and she doesn't crumple. Not yet.

He's watching. She knows he is.
